Gum may Prevents middle ear infections
Middle ear infections are common during early childhood. But there is a simple plan that can prevent this, that is using gum with Xylitol sweetener.
This report based a review of three healthy children studies from Finland. The researcher found that a fair evidence is there to support the conclusion that the kid who chew gum with Xylitol may have a lower risk to have a ear infections. The studies conclude that the stronger and deep studies are needed to prove and to know how. But the initial findings are promising. Xylitol also known as birch sugar is used in may reduce calorie product such as gum, candies and some baked products.

Because of the Xylitol can prevents the growth of some bacteria, some dentist recommend chewing xylitol gum to prevents cavities. Because middle ear infections are happen because the accumulated bacteria in the Eustachian tubes, the thinking is Xylitol is prevents the bacteria to to growing in there. The review examined three studies that include 1,826 healthy children and a single study involving 1,277 children with respiratory infections who were at high risk receiving a ear infections.

Majority of children in US, they visits doctors a year because middle ear infections. The number of children’s is 16 million a year. An American researcher say Xylitol represent a potential preventive strategy for reduce or prevent the middle ear infections. But another researcher says the research are far from perfect, they didn’t convinced by the data of the research a states that the deeper and complete research are needed for it. The difference of the sample is become the problem. The Finnish children condition and United States children conditions is far different. The antibiotics are not regularly used to cure ear infections in the Finland, but it does in US. So the relevance of the findings in United States population is not clear
