New hope for new premature ejaculation treatment

Researchers tested an experimental approach in which penile nerve tissue is frozen to knock out overactive nerves helped men with premature ejaculation last three times longer technique on 24 men who hadn’t been helped by standard treatments. They lasted an average of 110 seconds before ejaculation, or nearly two minutes, over the three months they were followed, compared with 36 seconds before treatment. Its supporters say the technique, or a similar one involving heat therapy, could someday become a standard treatment for the condition. Also unknown: whether men would opt for the treatment. The findings were presented here at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America. Prologo consults for Galil Medical, which funded the study.

Premature ejaculation affects 20% to 38% of men, making it among the most common forms of male sexual dysfunction worldwide. Treatment options include certain antidepressants such as Celexa (citalopram), Paxil (paroxetine), Prozac (fluoxetine), and Zoloft (sertraline), as well as anesthetic ointments and cream, and behavioral therapies. But many men aren’t helped by the treatments, Prologo says. The new technique involves inserting a tiny, hollow needle into the skin near the belly button. Using computerized imaging for guidance, the doctor snakes it down to one of the two dorsal penile nerves. Overactivity of these nerves has been implicated as a cause of premature ejaculation.

The premature ejaculation treatment procedure takes about 45 minutes, and men can go home the same day. While still experimental, Prologo estimates the cost at $3,500. After the procedure, men were asked five questions relating to their sexual satisfaction. All improved on at least one sexual-related symptom. There were no side effects from the procedure. However, three men reported their erections weren’t as firm afterward, for reasons Prologo can’t explain. Unknown is how long the treatment will last. In the third month of the study, some men started ejaculating more quickly again. Prologo says repeat injections may be necessary, and he is following the men for six months to see what happens.

Regular Fish Consumption may prevent Alzheimer’s d...

In a new study, imaging scans showed that regular fish-eaters were less likely to have brain cells die off in the area of the brain responsible for short-term memory. And people who ate baked or broiled fish at least weekly and didn’t lose brain cells were much less likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease or mild mental impairment, says Cyrus Raji, MD, PhD, of the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine. Several studies have linked a diet rich in certain fish to a reduced risk of Alzheimer’s disease. This benefit is thought to come from the omega-3 fatty acids in fish, although studies of fish oil supplements have produced disappointing results in people who already have Alzheimer’s.

Regular Fish Consumption may prevent Alzheimer’s disease

As many as 5.1 million Americans may have Alzheimer’s disease, an incurable, progressive brain disease that slowly destroys memory. People with mild mental impairment have memory loss greater than expected by normal aging, but to a lesser extent than in Alzheimer’s disease. The study involved 260 people, average age 71, with no memory problems in 1989-1990. All filled out food questionnaires asking how much fish they ate and how they prepared it. There were 163 people who ate fish at least weekly, most of whom ate it one to four times a week. Imaging scans of the brain were taken at the start of the study and an average of about seven years later. n the other hand, only 3% of people who ate fish weekly and whose brain cells were preserved developed Alzheimer’s or mild impairment.

Regular Fish Consumption may prevent Alzheimer’s disease1

The researchers tried to take into account other risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease memory loss that could affect the results, including age, gender, education, obesity, and physical activity. Still, the association between fish, brain volume, and dementia remained. But, it is possible that other lifestyle factors, such as eating less meat, could have also contributed to the association between eating fish and brain health. William Thies, PhD, chief medical and scientific officer of the Alzheimer’s Association says the findings support the group’s recommendation to eat a diet rich in cold-water fish that contain beneficial omega-3 fatty acids. These fish include halibut, mackerel, salmon, trout, and tuna.

Dry Skin Care

Moisturizer For Dry Skin Care

Dry Skin CareDry skin care is a kind of treatment for dry skin. Dry skin is a condition of our skin which has a low level of sebum and can liable to sensitivity. The skin has a parched look caused by its inability to retain moisture. It usually feels “tight” and uncomfortable after washing unless some type of dry skin care products is applied. Dry skin care products can be moisturizer or skin cream, drug or skin supplement, herb product, oil and food or vitamin. Here, we will disscus about moisturizer for dry skin care.
Moisturizer or skin cream are common dry skin care and often used by women. Beside, they are easily to find in drugstore, mall and they are easy to be applied in skin. There are a number of different kinds of moisturizer that are used to treat dry skin. The differences in these kinds of moisturizers are usually based on what part of the body the moisturizer is intended for and if the dry skin moisturizer is also intended to treat any other skin conditions such as acne, signs of aging, or rosacea. There are dry skin moisturizers that are intended for use specifically on the feet, on the hands, or both. There are other moisturizers that can be used all over the body. Finally, there are also kinds of moisturizers for dry skin that are meant to be used just on the face and neck.
When we need dry skin care for the face, it is common for skin care companies to sell one kind of moisturizer that is meant to be worn during the day and another kind of moisturizer that can be worn at night. Dry skin moisturizers for the day are usually a bit lighter and are meant to keep the skin hydrated but not oily. These are usually formulated so that they can be worn under makeup without causing the cosmetics to cake or run. Dry skin moisturizers for night are usually a bit thicker because they are applied to the face before bed and the wearer doesn’t have to worry about their skin becoming too shiny or the moisturizer interfering with their makeup.
There are some important notes before choosing moisturizer for our dry skin care. First, choose a moisturizer that is appropriate for your own skin type. If your friend raves about a particular moisturizing cream, think twice before hitting the pharmacy to buy the same brand. If unsure, you might want to consult with a skin doctor first so they can recommend an appropriate moisturizer for you to try. Second, look out for ingredients that can be harmful for your skin type and avoid moisturizers that contain them. For example. fragrances may irritate sensitive skin so it is best for people with this skin type to choose unscented moisturizers. Third, look for moisturizers with added benefits. For example, there are some moisturizers that offer SPF (Sun Protection Factor) as well. This would be helpful for those who are constantly outdoors and exposed to the sun. After you pay attention to the notes above, you can start to buy your moisturizers and apply them to your skin. But, the most important thing is try to consult about your skin condition to the doctor to make your dry skin care becomes complete.

Dhea Side Effects

Dhea Side Effects for Higher Dosage

Dhea Side EffectsNowadays, many young women experience premature aging of the skin. The skin feels dry, and fine lines start to appear on the forehead or the corner of the eye. You actually can delay aging by consuming Dhea as your supplement. What is dhea actually? Dhea is a hormone similar substance, mostly in production by the adrenal glands and in small amounts in produced by the ovaries. DHEA will be converted into steroid hormones, like estrogen, progesterone, testosterone and cortisone. Aging makes DHEA levels decline, making it hard on a woman’s body found in her 60s. Around 2000 research (mostly on animals) showed that high levels of supplements will increase energy and libido, memory, and protect against heart disease, osteoporosis, cancer, depression and aggressiveness. DHEA also can lose weight and prolong life. You can buy Dhea in any supplement store with affordable price. However, people tend to consume a supplement with higher dosage that recommended in order getting the fast result of their skin aging. If you consume this supplement also with higher dosage, you will meet the dhea side effects.

Actually there are some side effects of consuming Dhea such as acne breakout, women masculine effects, high perspiration, and uncertain heartbeats. If you take high doses of Dhea, the acne will usually appears on your back. It is really annoying thing that can destroy our appearance. Then the women actually are not recommended to take higher doses also because it can create masculine effects such as arising facial hair growth and deepening women’s voice. Too many doses are also can increase perspiration. It will make you not confident to move because too many sweet you will produce while you are doing your daily activities. It is very dangerous if you continue consuming too many doses of Dhea because it can increase your heartbeats rapidly. It might be lead to death if you have uncertain heartbeats. So, you are recommended to consume Dhea as your daily supplement in lower dosage.
And there actually still some minor side effects such as menstrual abnormality, mood changing, weight gain, breast tenderness, and headache.

Everything with excessive portion will not produce good result at the end as well as if you consume dhea in higher dosage. The key of your success on delaying aging is you should be patient and normal to do the treatment; otherwise the dhea side effects will damage your health.

Deep Brain Stimulation

Deep Brain Stimulation: No More Tremors

Deep Brain StimulationImagine if we have tremor. We will not being able to write properly again because our hands are shaking for no reason. Tremor is fluctuating movements in body such as in the hand or arm, so the person cannot hold glasses, pens or anything that requires smooth motion. In patients with Parkinson’s, this situation occurs, in which repetitive movements are performed consciously. So what should be done on this disorder? Generally, patients are given drugs to reduce the tremors. Today medical science advances especially in the field of neurosurgery have been able to perform surgery technique called deep brain stimulation (DBS). It is performed if a medical therapy by using drugs is not effective again.

DBS was found in 1987, which was first performed by using high-frequency stimulation on the thalamus of patients with Parkinson’s disease. Thalamus is the brain that is located symmetrically in the middle. Thalamus itself has some very important functions such as translating incoming information, processing and transmitting sensory signals selectively that contain information and then emitted into the cortex cerebral (outside brain tissue) to be stored as memory to set the state of sleep and wake up.
In other words the damage on the thalamus may also cause a coma. Neural network of the cerebellum (small brain) which serves to smooth the movement also has to go through the thalamus. For this reason the thalamus becomes a target for repairing patients with Parkinson’s tremor.
Since the technique is proven to be very effective to reduce or even eliminate the tremor, the Parkinson’s patients with essential tremor can be cured. Thalamus stimulation using electrodes is better than thalamotomy action (cutting the thalamus). Thalamotomy may be considered for patients with bilateral tremor. However, this action has side effects that may occur, for example: paresthesia, dysarthria, and disequilibrium that can actually be suppressed by adjusting the parameters of stimulation electrodes.

Deep Brain Stimulation operation is usually conducted for about 3 hours with the conscious condition of a patient because he or she just gives a local anesthetic. Before DBS surgery, patients performs a brain scanning using MRI first (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) and skull x-rays to determine the position of the thalamus. MRI data are then stored in the computer as a guide during surgery. The results of x-ray examination used to calculate the tilt angle and depth of the thalamus. In order to obtain the depth electrodes accuracy, it is measured in millimeters. This is done because any shift of the electrodes in the thalamus will give different effects, although only a few millimeters. Furthermore, these electrodes
will be planted permanently in the thalamus as a power source that will continue to emit the frequency of required batteries mounted outside the brain. Electrodes are placed under the skin and connected to a generator and battery that are implanted in the patient’s chest. Now, Parkinson’s patients have a new hope to regain their good quality of life by performing deep brain stimulation.
