New hope for new premature ejaculation treatment

Researchers tested an experimental approach in which penile nerve tissue is frozen to knock out overactive nerves helped men with premature ejaculation last three times longer technique on 24 men who hadn’t been helped by standard treatments. They lasted an average of 110 seconds before ejaculation, or nearly two minutes, over the three months they were followed, compared with 36 seconds before treatment. Its supporters say the technique, or a similar one involving heat therapy, could someday become a standard treatment for the condition. Also unknown: whether men would opt for the treatment. The findings were presented here at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America. Prologo consults for Galil Medical, which funded the study.

premature ejaculation

Premature ejaculation affects 20% to 38% of men, making it among the most common forms of male sexual dysfunction worldwide. Treatment options include certain antidepressants such as Celexa (citalopram), Paxil (paroxetine), Prozac (fluoxetine), and Zoloft (sertraline), as well as anesthetic ointments and cream, and behavioral therapies. But many men aren’t helped by the treatments, Prologo says. The new technique involves inserting a tiny, hollow needle into the skin near the belly button. Using computerized imaging for guidance, the doctor snakes it down to one of the two dorsal penile nerves. Overactivity of these nerves has been implicated as a cause of premature ejaculation.

The premature ejaculation treatment procedure takes about 45 minutes, and men can go home the same day. While still experimental, Prologo estimates the cost at $3,500. After the procedure, men were asked five questions relating to their sexual satisfaction. All improved on at least one sexual-related symptom. There were no side effects from the procedure. However, three men reported their erections weren’t as firm afterward, for reasons Prologo can’t explain. Unknown is how long the treatment will last. In the third month of the study, some men started ejaculating more quickly again. Prologo says repeat injections may be necessary, and he is following the men for six months to see what happens.

New research suggests that all beans are not created equal when it comes to your risk of flatulence. And even the worst offenders are not as bad as many might think. Despite the known health benefits of beans and legumes, many people tend to shy away from them because of fears of excessive and embarrassing gas. The new report analyzed flatulence and stomach distress, including stool changes and bloating, among people in three studies that looked at beans and heart disease risk. The findings appear in Nutrition Journal.

The new research suggest not all beans cause excessive gas

The people in two of these studies eat either a half cup of pinto beans, black-eyed peas, or baked beans daily for eight weeks. People in the comparison groups of the studies ate canned carrots daily. In the third study, participants ate either 1/2 cup of pinto beans or a serving of soup in the comparison group for 12 weeks. Less than half of participants reported increased gas with pinto or baked beans during the first week, and 19% had increased flatulence with black-eyed peas during the first week. About 3% to 11% of participants reported increased flatulence throughout the study period, even if they were eating carrots, not beans.

The new research suggest not all beans cause excessive gas1

The 2010 U.S. dietary guidelines stress eating legumes several times per week, as they are rich in protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. In all three of these studies, there was a significant drop in total cholesterol and LDL “bad” cholesterol. High cholesterol is a significant risk factor for heart disease and stroke. The researchers suggest starting with smaller portions and experimenting with different types of beans to see if there are any differences in flatulence. So just how do beans cause flatulence? Beans are rich in fiber and resistant starches oroligosaccharides. These carbohydrates cannot be digested by enzymes found in the gut alone, so they are broken down by a process called bacterial fermentation in the intestines. The majority of flatulence is a result of this bacterial fermentation, the researchers write.

The UN report show the drop of global HIV Deaths

This report shows some optimistic progress since the beginning of the epidemic. For the first time the UN Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) is able to points to trend going in the right direction.

The UN report show the drop of global HIV Deaths

One of major factor that support this trend is that live-saving HIV treatments got to 1.35 million more people in 2010 than in 2009. In poor and development country that has low and middle income rate, these treatments have save 2.5 million peoples live since 1995. Even so, 53% of people who needs HIV/AIDS treatments cannot get them. That is one reason why in 2010 there were 1.8 million AIDS deaths. Another reason is that there now 34 million people infected by AIDS and 2.7 millions new infections in just last year. Still the drop of death is to be appreciated. And this decrease of deaths plus new infections factor means, the AIDS pandemic is at tipping points. Wise investment now can save millions of future deaths.

The UN report show the drop of global HIV Deaths1

The choice for the world is clear. Maintain the current effort and make incremental progress or invest smartly and achieve fast success in HIV/AIDS response. The plan of UNAIDS including 6 parts. The first is focus on key populations at risk in each nation, particularly sex workers and their clients, homosexual, and people who inject drug. Second eliminate HIV infections among children by treating pregnant women with HIV. Behavior change program is the third. The promotion and distribution of Condom is the fourth. Treatment, care, and support for people with HIV. The last is voluntary medical male circumcision in nations with high HIV prevalence. With this part of plan, the hope for ending the AIDS epidemic which near impossible term was used few years ago, was not empty word. With science, political support, community responses are needed to deliver clear, positive result.
